NAN was founded in 1992 by Diego Clemente, in order to develop a new style within Argentine instrumental music by combining different elements of the Latin American folklore. Based in Buenos Aires –cosmopolitan city– NAN’s music shows native as well as European influences. This mestizo spirit is well manifested in the instrumental formation of the group, where classic instruments such as the guitar, cello or lute work together with others of popular root like the quena, charango, etc.

NAN’s first CD ‘Noviembre’ was recorded in 1992 and received widespread praise, including that from Egberto Gismonti. In following years, the band was invited to the Festival de Cosquin (main folkloric festival in Argentina), and the Montreal International Jazz Festival in Canada. They also toured around Europe with Zamba Quipildor, featuring the ‘Misa Criolla’ in cities like Seville, Madrid, Valence, Stockholm, Helsinki and Paris. In a second trip, NAN performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, UK.

In 1997, the band recorded the soundtrack for the film ‘Invierno, Mala Vida’, directed by Gregorio Cramer, which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1998. Some of the songs in the soundtrack were included in NAN’s CD ‘La Sorpresa’.

In 1998, NAN recorded with Zamba Quipildor the album ‘Paciencia de Piedra’, featuring the song ‘Destellos’, which was used for the national organ donation campaign by the INCUCAI. They also recorded a CD ‘Destellos’ (1999), which they presented at Opera Prima, Buenos Aires during May and June of 2001.

In January of 2001 the band performed once again at the Festival de Cosquin, both during its opening and its closing, promoting the first national campaign for organ donation. In December 2001, NAN played at the auditorium of the Facultad de Derecho –Universidad de Buenos Aires, featuring the CD ‘Por la Vida’, which included a new version of the ‘Misa Criolla’, with soloist Zamba Quipildor and special guest Silvina Garre, recorded to the benefit of the INCUCAI.

From 1997 to 2004 NAN also performed in numerous stages in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay: In the City of Buenos Aires, they played at the Teatro Gran Rex as the guest band of Barbarito Torres and Pio Leyva, stars of the Buena Vista Social Club. They also performed at the Teatro Nacional Cervantes, Complejo La Plaza (with the Coro de la Ribera), Teatro Astral (with Quipildor and Cuti and Roberto Carbajal), Teatro Opera (with Quipildor and the percussionist Domingo Cura), and others. They were featured in numerous cities of the Province of Buenos Aires (Arg.), including La Plata, at the Teatro Argentino de La Plata. In Rosario (Santa Fe, Arg.), they performed the ‘Misa Criolla’ with the tenor Juan Jose Cura. In Posadas (Misiones, Arg.), and Trinidad (Uruguay) they played with Zamba Quipildor. They also accompanied the Coro de la Ribera, conducted by Miguel Gomez Carrillo, in their Gira Noroeste Argentino 2003, performing in Santiago del Estero, Tucuman, Salta and Jujuy. During these years, they were featured in two opportunities at the Festival Folklorico en la Patagonia, in Punta Arenas (Chile).

In 2005, the group participated in the recording of the soundtrack for the film ‘Martin Fierro, el ave solitaria’, directed by Gerardo Vallejo. The next year, NAN presented such soundtrack in the ND Ateneo Theater in Buenos Aires, with guest artists such as Silvina Garre, Lucho Gonzalez, Horacio Burgos, Carlos Moscardini, and others. Since then, the soundtrack has been performed in various locations around Argentina.

The newest music of NAN has been recorded during 2007 in the CD ‘Domino’, which will be released and presented in September of 2008.
